I have read that goldenseal causes uterine contractions and would like to know if there is a specific amount to take. It is usually listed as one dropperful every 15 minutes until the baby is born. What would you recommend?

Hello Sunflower1237,

Thanks for writing.

Although there are reported cases in which Goldenseal was used sucessfully to induce labor, we personally feel there are other safer methods, such as: Nipple stimulation, exercise and walking. Another factor that may induce labor is intercourse. Eating spicy foods has worked for some expectant moms.

You may wish to instead try a Castor oil milkshake, drink 2 oz. castor oil, vanilla ice cream and OJ every 3 hours.

To make labor easier you may wish to try infusions of Raspberry leaf 3xs day. Sweeten only with honey.
As to the amount you mention of Goldenseal, that is way too much. We suggest adding 15 drops of extract or tincture to the infusions above only 3xs day.

Here's a link that may prove of use: http://blessingsforlife.com/pregnancy/laborinductions.htm

We strongly suggest that you consult with your OB/GYN before starting on any of the above therapies.

We hope to have been of some help, and wish you and your baby the very best.
Good luck! H.
